In summer 2021 I took an amazing course called Epic Authors Academy with Jess Keating. There was a point in the lessons when my mind opened to a young adult story I have been working on my entire life, I just didn't know it yet. It was a string that connected so many of the songs and stories I have written over the years. Thanks to the support and editing guidance of Carrie Jones, and the critique partnering of Jenna Pashley, this story has grown (and continues to grow) into her concept.
The working title is Splinter. It's about Brewen who turns 18 and ages out of foster care and needs all those things in the hierarchy of needs: food, shelter, love... It's a story of navigating independence and mental health, of building love and trust in your world, and most importantly in yourself. I promise it will surprise you and open your heart. I can't wait to have happy updates for you in the near future. For now, the status is: QUERYING Here is a song from the past that sums up the general feel of the story (also entitled Splinter.) I wrote the lyrics. My bandmates in Where's Henry? wrote the jamming music in the background: youtu.be/tgsPWj86bAo
